This award winning movie stars Gary Cooper, Helen Hayes and Adolphe Menjou. The movie is set in the first world war and starts with introduction of Henry (Cooper) and Catherine (Hayes) and their relationship. During wartime service, Henry is injured and hospitalized in Milan and is cared for by Rinaldi (a physician played by Menjou) and Catherine. As the couple spend more time together they fall deeply in love and start a family together. Once Henry recovers from his injury he returns to service but is accused of being a traitor after the Germans advance. Henry makes a daring escape and flees to Switzerland where he is reunited with Catherine before they suffer a tragic turn of events leaving the family shattered and broken.
