The Long Walk Home is the story of white woman Miriam Thompson (Sissy Spacek) and African-American woman Odessa Cotter (Whoopi Goldberg) who must walk everywhere, as she is observing the historic bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama in response to the Rosa Parks incident. With this in mind, Odessa who does house work for Miriam, is tiring at work and not doing her work properly. Miriam is extremely upset at Odessa’s performance and threatens to fire her if she doesn’t start taking the bus. Eventually, Odessa convinces her that the cause is worthwhile and both of them come to support the Civil Rights Movement.
