This is the story of the life of Malcolm X (Denzel Washington). He is born as the son of a southern minister. When his father is killed by the KKK, he is changed. He grows up to become a criminal and lands in prison. While there, he learns about the Nation of Islam and Elijah Muhammad (Al Freeman Jr). He begins to preach these lessons, along with hatred of the whites, to people across America with his wife Betty Shabazz (Angela Bassett). He makes the pilgrimage to Mecca where he finally coverts and becomes a Muslim. He then begins to see that preaching hatred of the whites doesn’t help his people or serve his religion. As his views begin to soften he continues to grow as a major Civil Rights leader in the 1960s until his assassination in 1965.
