Harry (Jack Nicholson) is an aging man who refuses to grow up - he is a permanent bachelor who only dates women young enough to be his daughters. He accompanies one of his girlfriends, Marin (Amanda Peet), to her mother's beach house to spend a romantic weekend. But they are surprised to find that Marin's mother Erica (Diane Keaton), who is Harry's age, is there too. Harry develops chest pains at the beach house and suffers a minor stroke, and the brunt of caring for him falls on reluctant Erica. At first Harry and Erica are mutually suspicious of each other: Harry has always had a distaste for women his age and Erica doesn't quite trust his rob-the-cradle approach to life, but each falls for the other slowly as they spend time alone together. Ironically, Erica is also being romantically pursued by her dashing doctor, who is her daughter's age. This movie examines the ins and outs of age, sex, love, and relationships.
