Sophie's Choice, starring Merryl Streep as Sophie Zawistowski, is an emotional drama about the relationships that Sophie's character, a concentration camp survivor, develops in post-World War II society. Set in New York, the story unfolds as Sophie develops her relationship with Nathan Landau (Kevin Kline) and revolves around the dramas causing tension between them as they are both hiding secrets and living their lives with a distorted view of reality. The story is narrated by an aspiring author named Stingo (Peter MacNichol) who starts a friendship with Sophie and Nathan after settling into Brooklyn and his perceptions of their relationship.
