This is the life story of world-famous singer and actor Bobby Darin (Kevin Spacey). We meet Bobby at the height of his career, directing on the set of a Hollywood movie, with friends Steve Blauner (John Goodman) and Charlie Maffia (Bob Hoskins). Bobby feels a sense of loss, and sees a vision of himself as a boy (William Ullrich). The action follows young Bobby as we flash back to Darrin's youth, when a doctor told Bobby's mother and sister that due to a failing heart, the boy had only months to live. To comfort the boy, Bobby's mother buys a piano and teaches him to play and sing. Defying the odds, Bobby survives and with the help of lifelong friends Steve and Charlie, sets out on a career filled with megahits like "Splish Splash", "Mack the Knife", "Beyond the Sea", and "More". Soon, Bobby is a superstar, and he woos and weds starlet Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth). As his popularity starts to wane, long-hidden family secrets are revealed.
